The short version

Robot Eyes records camera video, LiDAR depth, motion-sensor and position data on your iPhone, and can stream the camera to a computer or robot that you connect. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party software. We, the developer, receive nothing from the app.

What the app records, on your phone only

When you press Record, the app writes a session folder in its own storage on your iPhone:

  • Color video from the rear camera.
  • LiDAR depth and confidence maps.
  • Accelerometer and gyroscope readings.
  • The camera's position and orientation over time (from Apple's ARKit) and the camera's optical parameters, including a ROS-format calibration file built from them.
  • Session details: date and duration, your phone model and iOS version, the app version, the capture settings you chose, thermal state, battery level and free storage, plus a copy of the app's diagnostic log for that session.

Nothing in a session identifies you unless you point the camera at something that does. No location data is recorded. The app also keeps a small rolling diagnostic log (recent launches only) in its own storage. It contains technical events, never images.

What leaves the phone, and only when you make it

  1. A computer you connect. With streaming on, a computer or robot that connects to the app receives the live camera video and a once-a-second status message (frame rates, thermal state, battery, free storage, camera tilt, and, if you enable it, the camera's position and speed). It can also read the small measurement files of your sessions (never the video or depth images) and, if you allow it in Settings, start or stop a recording.
    • By default the app listens only over the USB cable. Nothing on any network can reach it.
    • If you turn on "Allow Wi-Fi access", devices on your network can connect only if they present the access token shown in Settings. That connection is not encrypted. Use it on networks you trust.
  2. Sharing. When you tap Share, the app builds a ZIP of the session and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes (AirDrop, Files, iCloud Drive, another app, email) is your choice, and that destination's privacy terms apply. "Share diagnostics log" in Settings works the same way.
  3. Files access. Sessions are visible in the Files app and via Finder when the phone is plugged into a Mac, so you can copy your own data.

There is no other path off the phone. The app makes no network requests of its own, except to a model catalog address you enter yourself in Settings, when you tap Load or Download; those requests fetch a model and carry nothing about you or your recordings. It contains no code from analytics, crash-reporting or advertising providers.

What we collect

Nothing. We have no server. We cannot see your recordings, your streams, or whether you use the app at all. If you email us a diagnostic log or a session, we use it only to answer you and delete it when the question is resolved.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Camera — required to record and stream. The app does not work without it.
  • Local network — asked only if you turn on Wi-Fi access, so that computers on your network can connect.

The app needs an iPhone with a LiDAR scanner (iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro models). On other devices it explains that it cannot capture.

Retention and deletion

Sessions stay on your phone until you delete them: swipe a session, use Select then Delete, or delete the app. Deleting the app removes every session, setting and log. ZIPs built for sharing are removed after the share sheet closes. Anything you have already sent to a computer or shared elsewhere is outside the app and must be deleted there.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

Changes

If the app ever gains a feature that sends data to us or to a third party, this page will say so before that version ships, with the date of the change at the top.
